We can divide the naturel shades of wool in whites, browns and greys.
The wool we call white usually has an ecru or creamy colour. One 'white' sheep's colour can be a much yellowier shade than the other.
A warm, natural shade of white is obtained when it is hand-spun.
There is often quite a wide variation in shades in brown sheep. Sometimes the wool is a very deep brown, but it can also be several shades lighter or mixed with grey.
A special breed is the so-called Blue Texeler.
These scheep have wonderful silvery grey fleece, with very light shades interspersed with a darker grey or greyish brown. This gives a very lively hue when it is spun.
